Yes. Pre-registration is required for our in-person and virtual auditions. It is strongly encouraged that you complete your registration at least 48 hours before the scheduled audition date.
Results for in-person and virtual auditions will be emailed within 1 - 2 weeks of a dancer’s scheduled audition date. If you have not received your results by this date, please check your spam or junk folder before contacting intensives@hubbardstreetdance.com.
Results for video auditions will be communicated following the February 10 deadline.
Yes. Dancers are required to re-audition every year for the opportunity to participate in our Intensives.
For technique class, the dancer must wear form-fitting apparel and ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled back and out of the dancer’s face.
On the audition day, we ask participants to bring a photo ID for verification. All other required items (online registration, resume, headshot, and waiver) must be uploaded digitally before the audition.
Auditions will include a technique class, learning a short repertoire phrase, and conclude with dancer improvisation. Dancers are not required to prepare a solo for the audition.
Please note that being accepted into our program does not automatically secure a spot. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and spots fill up fast. As capacity is limited, we advise parents and students to register as early as possible.
Once the program reaches capacity, any additional students will be added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, students on the waitlist will be contacted in the order in which their registration was received.
If you cannot attend our live or virtual auditions, dancers may submit a video audition for consideration. The last day to accept video applications is 11:59 a.m. CST on Monday, February 10, 2025. Late submissions for video auditions will be considered case-by-case, with priority given to dancers who submit by our February 10 deadline.
Our social media challenge provides an opportunity to win a $250 scholarship and be fast-tracked through the Summer audition process. Dancers may submit a 30-second video for consideration in our EXPLORE or TEEN REP Intensive. The deadline to submit is December 27, 2024. Click here to learn more!
Hubbard Street offers a TEEN CREATE and TEEN REP Intensive catered to dancers ages 13-17. We also provide a CREATE and EXPLORE Intensive for dancers ages 18-25. A dancer must meet our minimum age requirements by June 1, 2025, meaning a dancer must be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2025, to attend our 18-25-year-old programs, and a dancer must be 13 years old by June 1, 2025, to attend our 13-17-year-old program.
Dancers attending our Summer Intensives will have the opportunity to train with Artistic Director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Senior Rehearsal Director and Director of Summer Intensives Jonathan E. Alsberry, Rehearsal Director Craig Black, Jr., current HSDC Dancers, and highly-accredited local professionals. Stay tuned for our full 2025 Faculty roster to be announced!
Full participation in our Summer Programs is required. Absences due to personal circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be pre-approved by our Summer Intensive staff before registration.
Classes will be held at HSDC's Pritzker Foundation Studio at Water Tower Place (835 N Michigan). To accommodate our 2025 programming needs, Hubbard Street will partner with Columbia College and Roosevelt University to offer supplementary space in downtown Chicago. Class schedules will indicate specific class locations. Resident Advisors will accompany students attending our TEEN CREATE and TEEN REP Intensives to and from the studios daily.
HSDC does not offer placement classes. Our Director of Summer Intensives will assign dancers to appropriate groups. Decisions are not discussed with students or parents, and dancers may not request a group change once assigned.
The number of technique classes offered varies by program. Please see program details for more information.
Class sizes will range between 25 - 35 dancers.
Dancers are required to present themselves professionally. Hair should be removed from the dancer’s face during technique classes. Crop tops, bralettes, or any apparel that exposes the midriff are not allowed. Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer. Any color of form-fitting apparel is acceptable.
Because Hubbard Street does not perform works on pointe, pointe work is not a part of our Summer Intensive curriculum.
Upon enrolling in Hubbard Street's Summer Intensive programs, families must recognize that participation entails a commitment to the program and are accountable for the complete tuition amount outlined in HSDC materials. Hubbard Street upholds a policy of non-refundability, non-issuance of credits, or transfers. The tuition is non-refundable, even in cases where a dancer withdraws or is dismissed from the program before its commencement. Furthermore, HSDC does not refund tuition for missed classes due to injury or illness during active participation in the Intensive.
If Hubbard Street is forced to cancel an event, we may be unable to refund housing fees due to our third-party contract with the housing provider. However, registered students and their families will receive a refund for any tuition costs associated with their enrollment.
A limited amount of financial aid is available to dancers attending our Summer Intensives. Financial aid is awarded to families in the greatest need. Dancers can apply for assistance once accepted into our Summer Intensives.
Participants are expected to be current on vaccinations based on FDA recommendations. Before the program begins, participants are encouraged to submit a copy of their vax card and must complete our health code of conduct agreement.
We do not require masks to be worn inside the studios. HSDC continues closely monitoring government and city mandates to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our staff and participants.
The Summer Intensive Fellows Program is an unprecedented opportunity for top-performing dancers from our EXPLORE and CREATE Summer Intensive programs to immerse themselves in the world of a professional contemporary dance company. HSDC will select 4-6 dancers from the EXPLORE and CREATE summer intensive programs to join the company for a world premiere creation process during a week-long residency in Chicago. Fellows who are selected will each receive a stipend of $500 to contribute to their travel and housing costs.
Dancers registered for our EXPLORE or CREATE programs will automatically be considered for the Fellows Program.
Hubbard Street provides housing for students, just a short walk from the studios. Suites are air-conditioned, apartment-style housing with a 24-hour security guard. Each suite contains a common living space, kitchen, and shared bathroom. Apartments come with basic dorm-style furnishings. Kitchens are equipped with refrigerators, stove-top oven, and microwave. The cost of housing includes wireless internet, utilities, and free laundry facilities.
Housing costs are not included in the program tuition. Housing space is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All housing fees are non-refundable.
Dancers are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the airport and the dorms.
Resident Advisors will be available to supervise dancers attending our TEEN CREATE and TEEN REP Intensive once they arrive at the dorms on the official check-in day.
A 5- or 10-week meal plan is offered at a separate cost exclusively to our TEEN CREATE and TEEN REP Intensives. Meal plans are not provided in our CREATE or EXPLORE Summer Intensives.
Dancers may prepare meals in their suites or visit neighborhood restaurants and supermarkets.
The check-in and check-out times differ for each program. Participants will be provided with details following their registration.
Dancers have the option to request roommates at the time of registration. While Hubbard Street will make every effort to fulfill these requests, we cannot guarantee accommodation. For the request to be accepted, both dancers must mutually request roommates.
