The Hubbard Street Dance Center announces a call for entries to its tenth annual Choreographic Competition to identify three emerging choreographers who will create original works for Hubbard Street 2, the second company of the internationally acclaimed Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC). The competition is open to all artists eligible to work in the U.S.
Selected choreographers will participate in a two-week residency in 2008 to create an original work for Hubbard Street 2. Residencies may take place in Chicago or elsewhere in the United States with HS2 partners. During the residency period, the work will be created on some or all of the six dancers of HS2 and will be audited and learned by participants in HS2 Summer Intensive programs. Choreographers will also teach a MasterClass to HS2 and Summer Intensive participants.
The commission includes:
• $2,000 stipend
• 10 days of rehearsal time with the dancers
• travel including round-trip transportation, per diem and accommodations
Hubbard Street 2 will premiere each new work during the 2008–09 season. Past winners include Robert Battle, Aszure Barton, Brian Enos, Janice Lancaster, Edwaard Liang, Amy Raymond, Yarden Ronen, Christian Spuck and Kristopher Storey.
